February 12, 2018

The NEPC in collaboration with Femi bags has successfully trained and graduated 35 more youths on the production of leather products. This is in continuation of Councils strategy to boost the non-oil exports sector.

Following the successful collaboration in hosting the 1st Lagos leather fair in Lagos and deliberations with stakeholders in the sector, It was discovered that the supply chain is critical for exports in the sector. This informed the need to build up capacity to beef up production.

The Council partnered with FemiHandBags to engage youths in an intensive two-week capacity workshop in the area of manufacturing handbags, corporate gifts, wallets and other leather items to enhance the development of the sector for export

This is the second batch of trainees on leather production to be graduated under this partnership. The graduation which was held in Ibadan, Oyo State is a continuation of the collaborative effort between the Council and Femi Handbags. It aims to create job opportunities for the unemployed by providing them with training in the field of finished leather products as well as  strengthen the sector for domestic production and eventually, for export purposes.
