Senate Committee on Trade and Investment visit the NEPC Headquarters
The senate committee on trade and investment led by the distinguished Chairman Sen Sadiq Suleiman Umar visited the Council today as part of their oversight function of Federal Government agencies and parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment(FMITI).
Some of the issues discussed include among others include the need to increase non-oil export with a view to generating more foreign exchange for the country. The committee emphasized the need to address the issue of informal/cross-border trade along the trade corridors, the need to source for more funding to drive export activities and the need to increase capacity building for exporters especially SMES, youth and women to ensure inclusive economic growth.
More importantly, the issue of yam export and the need for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to enhance equality of yam exports to reduce or stop incidences of export rejects among others was also discussed.
The ED/CEO who received the delegation highlighted some of NEPC’s export intervention programmes/projects targeted at doubling export growth under the Council’s flagship campaign programme tagged: operation double your export for job creation and economic growth.
Some of these programmes include the operationalization of the DEWs, the NEPC Export Mentorship Programme which is targeted at building capacity for would be exporters especially the youth in a bid to stimulate an export culture, creation of aggregation centers to enhance the quality of exportable products, increase the volume and value of made in Nigeria products. As well as export 35 redefined and the go global go certification targeted at enhancing the quality of Nigerian products in the international market to attract premium price.
