The GACC is a new clearance system that was introduced by the Customs Department of the People’s Republic of China in 2021.
The Council through its Market Access Department on Thursday, 18th April, 2024 organized a Sensitization Workshop on the General Administration of Chinese Customs (GACC) of the People’s Republic of China
The program which took place in Lagos was organized to sensitize Nigerian Exporters on the new Decrees 248 and 249, mandating all overseas food manufacturers, processors and storage facilities to register under the GACC and ensure compliance with Chinese import policies before they can export to China
The Executive Director/CEO, Mrs. Nonye Ayeni, ably represented by the Regional Coordinator, South-West Regional Coordinating Office (RCO), Lagos, In her Opening Remarks mentioned that the Council has in recent times been inundated with complaints, involving shipments to arriving in China which could not be cleared or released due to lack of compliance with the required procedures and necessary documentation.
She informed the participants in attendance that NEPC was appointed the Competent Authority in Nigeria for the GACC in November 2022 in order to fast track the clearance of exports from Nigeria in China and has registered Sixty-Seven (67) companies under Seven (7) different products on the Scheme.
Furthermore,Ayeni stated that this was in recognition of the Council’s pivotal role in the promotion and development of the Nigeria’s Non-Oil Export and buttressed the need for Exporters/Participants to join hands with the Council to achieve its Mandate.
Participants were glad to receive this nascent knowledge on how to enter into the Chinese market. Questions on areas not well understood were attended to accordingly, as they were properly guided on the required procedures and documentation before shipping their products to China.
